Fall into Fall!

Hey, fam! I hope this week has brought you great experiences, delicious food, and a few minutes of respite from the world.

Headliner news this week: I booked a little equity showcase of a new musical, and we started rehearsals this week! I'm so excited about this project. It is the first time in a while I've been able to exercise some of these old creaky creative muscles, and it feels really good. More info on performances to come.

Insider news: Yesterday after work (on the UES), I decided instead of taking the crosstown bus to the train home, I'd stroll through the park instead. It was incredible. Pre-Autumn in the city is beautiful. Trees are still mostly green, and you don't need a scarf yet, but the air is crisp and you don't sweat if you're walking fast. I got to pet a horse-dog (aka The Greatest Dane), took a picture for an old man who hasn't yet mastered the "selfie," and stopped to admire a bride and groom taking wedding photos by Bethesda fountain (side note: the bride had the most incredible one-piece jumper pants thing I've ever seen. She totally rocked the unconventional bride look).
I've been reminded often lately about how NYC isn't an unfriendly city, just a different culture. It's just a really big small town. Get to know your neighbors, everyone has a story.

Outsider news: So many dear friends are booking and doing work in theatre lately! I love it, it's so encouraging. Here's an example from my friend Davina that she'd like to share:

A very dear friend of mine just found out that he's booked a 6-month performing gig on a cruise, which has been a goal of his for the past 3ish years that I've known him. It's just always nice to see when patience & hard work pays off.

And she's right. Especially in show business, when there is no such thing as immediate gratification, it is heartwarming to experience friends who have struggled for a long time finally get to exercise their own creative muscles.

Remember: If you have any good news you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to email, facebook, text, or yell it from the rooftops. Let's lift each other up, y'all.

Sunday News

Hey fam! I hope you had some good news come your way this weekend!

Headliner: I got a total day off this week. Not a single commitment. All day. I did laundry (well, I paid someone else to do it for me...they fold it better than I do!), went to the Chipped Cup (best coffee shop in Harlem, y'all) and spent some time going over some stuff for auditions, reading, and drinking some amazing green tea lemonade. The weather was incredible, so I had to spend some time outside and they have the sweetest little garden out back with a beautiful and elegant life-size ceramic goat. If you see that goat and you don't immediately feel at least 28% happier than you were pre-goat, go home. You don't deserve him.

Insider scoop: I finally gave myself a pedicure. You're welcome, world.

Outsider scoop: Some dear college friends are celebrating their one year wedding anniversary today! Congrats, Tom and Jess! I got a sweet little stack of pictures and a lovely note from them in the mail yesterday:

Extra, Extra! On September 8, 1910, 103 years ago today, The original Penn Station opened. According to NY1.com, The majestic structure was modeled after baths in ancient Rome. And now that Madison Square Garden's lease is up in 2023, hopes for a new Penn Station (which is now UNDER Madison Square Garden) are on the horizon. City Council speaker Christine C. Quinn said to the NY Times, "This is the first step in finding a new home for Madison Square Garden and building a new Penn Station that is as great as New York and suitable for the 21st century. This is an opportunity to reimagine and redevelop Penn Station as a world-class transportation destination."

Now, I know that may not be epically good news for all of you, but since some of my fam lives out in NJ and I travel to and from Penn often, this is GREAT news. May every space in NYC be as great as the people who occupy it.

Now don't forget, if you have any good news and want to spread the love, be sure you send me an email, facebook message, text, or tell me in person so I can put it up on the blog! We have got to spread some love, fam. We all need it!

Friday, September 7, 2013

As today is the first official news day for this oh-so-professional publication, I thought I'd start off easy.

Headliner: Ladies' night: a success! I got together tonight on the Upper West Side with about 15ish other gals from various different walks of life and we ate delicious food, drank amazing cocktails (see recipe below), and chatted about life and what it means to live in New York. My soul is replenished, and I'm ready to take on an amazing fun-filled weekend. Next up: sleep-in Saturday!

Transit News: I waited no more than 60 seconds for every bus and train I took today (6 total trips). Now THAT'S good news!

Insider News: A few weeks ago I started working part time for a film maker/director as his assistant on his newest documentary. Not only can I pay my rent, but I get to be a small part in a really neat project! It feels really good to accomplish some smaller, short-term projects that I know will be helpful in editing.

Outsider News: My best friend and her husband just bought their first home! A sweet fixer-upper in Western PA is getting much needed TLC as we speak. I can't wait to go out there later in the Fall and help paint.

And remember, if anything newsworthy happens to you, tell me (via email, text, in person, whatever!) if you'd like it on the blog, and I'll post it. we have to encourage each other y'all, this life is too hard alone.

Let's get some good things goin'!
