Headliner news this week: I booked a little equity showcase of a new musical, and we started rehearsals this week! I'm so excited about this project. It is the first time in a while I've been able to exercise some of these old creaky creative muscles, and it feels really good. More info on performances to come.
Insider news: Yesterday after work (on the UES), I decided instead of taking the crosstown bus to the train home, I'd stroll through the park instead. It was incredible. Pre-Autumn in the city is beautiful. Trees are still mostly green, and you don't need a scarf yet, but the air is crisp and you don't sweat if you're walking fast. I got to pet a horse-dog (aka The Greatest Dane), took a picture for an old man who hasn't yet mastered the "selfie," and stopped to admire a bride and groom taking wedding photos by Bethesda fountain (side note: the bride had the most incredible one-piece jumper pants thing I've ever seen. She totally rocked the unconventional bride look).
I've been reminded often lately about how NYC isn't an unfriendly city, just a different culture. It's just a really big small town. Get to know your neighbors, everyone has a story.
Outsider news: So many dear friends are booking and doing work in theatre lately! I love it, it's so encouraging. Here's an example from my friend Davina that she'd like to share:
A very dear friend of mine just found out that he's booked a 6-month performing gig on a cruise, which has been a goal of his for the past 3ish years that I've known him. It's just always nice to see when patience & hard work pays off.
And she's right. Especially in show business, when there is no such thing as immediate gratification, it is heartwarming to experience friends who have struggled for a long time finally get to exercise their own creative muscles.
Remember: If you have any good news you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to email, facebook, text, or yell it from the rooftops. Let's lift each other up, y'all.
